What do you do with a vacant department store in a town centre?
A question that lots of towns need to answer given the rising demise of bricks and mortar retail outlets. Town centres need fresh ideas about how to use urban spaces. One successful solution is in Oldenburg. The multi-award-winning CORE project has turned the erstwhile German department store Hertie into a place for people to meet, be productive and interact. Co-working, eateries and events are under one roof. All are supported by a clever EVOline concept that provides power and data in the existing building.
The project’s mission was ambitious. CORE was to be a multipurpose, community-driven space that rejuvenated the town centre. ANGELIS & PARTNER Architekten mbBdesigned a concept that responds to the varying demands of CORE’s users. Therefore, the infrastructure needed maximum modularity and to reflect the constraints of the existing building.
Sophisticated power supply solutions
A sophisticated power supply solution that reconciles architectural and functional requirements is key to the hub’s success. The over 100 EVOline DockSquare provide flexible, user friendly power and data connections at the workspace. These function-rich, crisply designed modules are easy to fit to furniture and check all the boxes in terms of their technical features and aesthetics.
Spaces that work
EVOline stands for clever design and superior functionality, which matches CORE’s design concept perfectly. Contemporary materials, open-plan approaches and a versatile-to-integrate infrastructure mean highly attractive spaces with the technology to match. The discreetly fitted power and data connections ensure maximum flexibility in a workplace that’s inspiring and encourages people to linger. This project acts as a beacon for other towns that want to reimagine urban spaces.
